Sniff, sniff
I have definitely, and finally got the cold. Not as bad as anybody else's has been by a long way, but it's here. Constant sniffing, coughing, and nose blowing; resulting in a very red nose. I wasn't a very good advert for the surgery today when I was on reception. It has also addled my brain so much that when having lunch with a friend today, I casually looked at the clock to see how long I had left of my lunch hour to find it was over and I was only half way through my cake... disaster. However, being so full of snot and feeling less than sprightly, I stayed where I was until the cake and tea were done. (sorry boss, but I just didn't have the energy to care).
I'm now going to bed with a magazine, and hopefully I'll get some sleep and feel better in the morning. Hope so as we are going 'weekly shopping' in Oban, but if I feel like this it will be 'weakly shopping'. Hopefully we'll meet Debs and her girls, Naomi and Jasmine there which will be good.
Serious question:
If a cafe were to open in your local area what would you want to it have/do/not do?
eg: I'd like it to have highchairs and plastic cups for my kids. For there to be no muzak. Napkins that are absorbant. Reading material.
This is serious research, so please help! Thanks

Sorry to hear of the ongoing cold. I hope you get better really soon.
Re: Cafe
I'd like live music on Fridays/Sat./Sundays - maybe even afternoon sets of songs. Quieter shows that don't damage ears and that allows local musicians - especially those just beginning to perform - to do low pressure public shows unplugged. Maybe comedy night - poetry (dangerous territory) readings, or slams.
Local art on the walls.
I'd like a cafe with different styles of coffee. Turkish, Mexican, etc. But each style would need to be good/authentic.
I like cafes open as late as pubs so if you don't want to drink there is still a cool place to go, and even later - for games, post party come-down, talk, late night cake and tea.
Warm lighting. Lots of wood surfaces (walls, floors, tables, chairs, picture frames).
I guess I envision a cafe being a place where it's easy for it's community members to converge and connect and feel at home and creatively inspired.
Is that too much info?
Too much info??? Never! That is great, thanks.
If you think of anything else be sure to let me know. How about 'cute touches' you've seen/experienced? (and nothing rude here please)
(of course I can't think a single example right now... typical!)
Cute touches: I really like lighting that hangs down from the ceiling - hallogen - and I like when a person has made the shade - glass or cloth with bead and tassle. Warm rich colors. A leather chair. A fire place going. A comfy sofa in a hidden corner. Murals on the wall depicting whatever (in one place, it was depicting an extension of a cozy reading room much like everything around one. A table tucked away in a nook for private talks.
20 kinds of herbal tea! Mismatched mugs and silverware and plates with different patterns.
Vegan and also non vegan pastries.
Tables with tiled tops - tiled by people who love the cafe. Does that makes sense?
There was a neat restaurant in Vancouver had a little candle bowl with holes - and the holes made cool shadows on the table.
Tyler likes chess and I like board games on hand. A shelf of take/leave books. Tyler likes music that he chose... but you know, that could scare people away, depending on his mood.
I guess anything that feels warm and inviting I would add to the kind of cafe I would create.
